Publication trend of the “Arid Land Geography” in recent 3 decades: results and enlightenment based on bibliometric analysis

Abstract
"Arid Land Geography" has been published for 30 years, which is concentrated on arid and semi-arid regions and the related issues. This article uses the detailed bibliographic data obtained from database to analyze the publication trends of "Arid Land Geography" in 30 years. Through quantitative analysis on articles' number, discipline classification, study area, core-authors group, research hot spots, the annual variation of these indices have been illustrated, so do the research content and direction, research institutes and researchers' distribution change. The results indicate that in recent 30 years, the number of articles published in ""Arid Land Geography"" presents a swift growth tendency, this kind of growth is especially obvious since the implementation of Knowledge Innovation Project in Chinese Academy of Sciences; the related research institutes show very obvious region correla-tivity, they are mainly concentrated in the northwestern China, especially in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region , recently the affiliation of some comprehensive colleges and universities joined in, which indicates that the domestic attention on arid and semi-arid regions is strengthened day by day; Xinjiang, the Tarim River and the Tianshan Mountains are the three highest frequencies' key words, which reflect the research hot spots in "Arid Land Geography" , however, the content emphasis is not very prominent. The results of bibliometric analysis on cited literatures about " Arid Land Geography" shows that the citation frequencies by CSCD and SCI and the influence factors all increase unceasingly, which further explains the attention of academia to arid and semi-arid regions and the related issues is strengthened more and more. However, the core author group of "Arid Land Geography" has not been formed really because of the new researchers' jointing and the experienced ones intend to enhance their international influence by submitting articles to oversea highly-influencing journals. This problem makes "Arid Land Geography" face new opportunity and challenge in globally popularizing arid and semi-arid regions' research achievements and journal's development.关键词
