摘要
Abstract
Macrophages are important cell component of the immune system with multiple functions and play crucial roles in the development of atherosclerosis and other vascular diseases. Macrophage apoptosis is a key factor leading to instability of atherosclerotic plaques. In the late stage of atherosclerosis, macrophage apoptosis is closely related to endoplasmic reticulum ( ER) stress. Macrophage apoptosis is mediated by two central pathways; the extrinsic (or death receptor) pathway and the intrinsic (or mito-chondrial, endoplasmic reticulum stress) pathway. The later has been found for a few years but the mechanisms still remain poorly understood.关键词
