Abstract

Objective: To study the somatotyping character of Tuvas and Buryat The somatotyping difference between the two groups and Mongolian was compared. Methods:The somatotyping characters of 310 adults of Buryat (152 males and 158 females), living Hulunbeier area of Inner Mongolia, and 159 adults of Tuvas (55 males and 104 females) , living Arlertai area of Xinjiang, were analysed by a Heath-Carter somatotyping method. Comparison was performed between the two nationalities samatotypes and other domestic and overseas samples. Results: The mean somatotype of Tuvas males was the en-do-mesomorph category (3. 4-5. 4-1. 4), and that of Buryat males was the endo-mesomorph category (3. 9-5. 7-1. 6). The mean somatotype of Tuvas females was the endomorph-mesomorph category (5. 3-5. 2-1. 0), and that of Buryat females was the endomorph-mesomorph category (6. 0-6. 1-1. 0). In the two groups, endomorphic and mesomorphic components increased and ectomorphic component decreased obviously with age. After 30 years of age, the more notable change of the three components was observed. The somatotype of Tuvas was similar to Buryat The somatotypes of the two groups were close to Russ, Uzbek and Eweki nationalities. Conclusion: The somatotyping mesomorphic component is dominant obviously in Tuvas and Buryat They have more strong physique, in which the physique of Buryat females was dominant There is a significant difference in the somatotyping character between the two groups and Mongolian of Inner Mongolia.
