Experimental Study on Characteristics of Nitrogen Oxides Reduction by Biofuel Reburning

Abstract

The experimental studies on the rebuming with sawdust, rice husk and dry sludge have been performed on a 93 kW pulverized coal single-burner furnace. The influences of biofuel type, biofuel carrier gas and rebuming ratio on the nitric oxide (NO) reduction efficiency were investigated and analyzed. Detailed in-furnace measurements for O2, NO, CH4, HCN and NH3 concentration distributions in the reburn zone were also accomplished. The experimental results show that the maximum NO reduction efficiency of 68% by the sawdust rebuming, 58% by the rice husk rebuming, and 45% by the dry sludge rebuming can be achieved under the experimental conditions. At least 10% increasing of the NO reduction efficiency can be obtained when the biofuel carrier air is replaced by the recycled flue gas. The results of in-furnace measurements reveal that the major nitrogen-containing intermediates in the reburn zone is HCN with the sawdust and rice husk rebuming, and is NH3 with the dry sludge rebuming. The concentration distributions of O2, CH4, HCN and NH3 are greatly related with the profiles of NO concentration in the reburn zone. These key gaseous species play a crucial role to nitrogen oxides reduction.
