Forest Carbon Storage in China Estimated Using Forestry Inventory Data

Abstract
In this study, we used biomass regression model to estimate biomass of arbor forest, took carbon-included rate in different tree species as the transferring coefficient from biomass to carbon stock, and further summed a single tree to plot and weighted means to province level. The carbon storage of arbor forests in China were estimated based on original data of 7th national forest continuous inventory. In the same time, carbon storage of open forests, scatted trees and "four-sides" trees were estimated by weighted mean conversion factors, and carbon storage of bamboo and shrubbery were estimated by regression model. The results showed that most of the forest carbon storage was distributed in the southwestern and northeastern China. Arbor forests were a main body of forest carbon storage in China. Carbon storage of plantations was more than 15% t)f total arbor forests in China, and carbon storage and density of broad leaf trees were higher than that of conifer trees.关键词
