Outcomes and Health Economics of Combined Acupuncture and Medicine in Treating Common Cold in Grassroots Health Organizations

Abstract
Objective To study the outcomes of combined acupuncture and medicine application in treating common cold in grassroots health organizations with the hope to provide substantial basis for the popularization of this appropriate health technology. Methods A total of 180 patients with common cold were randomly assigned to the appropriate technology group and the conventional technology group in four township health centers in Ningyang County, Shandong province. Curative effects and medical expenses were compared between the two groups. Results After 7 days of treatment, cure rate and medical expenses per person were 79. 8% and 367. 77 yuan in the conventional technology group and were 91. 1% and 128. 58 yuan in the appropriate technology group. The appropriate technology group displayed a higher cost - effectiveness value than the conventional technology group. Conclusion The combination of medicine and acupuncture reduces the economic burden of the patients and displays better effects in treating common cold in grassroots health organizations. This appropriate technology is worth further popularization.关键词
