Abstract

[Objective]The present experiment was conducted to study the effects of different atrazine concentrations on growth and some physio-biochemical characteristics of cabbage seedling. [Method]The chlorophyll, malondialdehyde (MDA) and soluble sugar contents in the leaves and some growth parameters were determined in cabbage seedling treated with different concentrations of atrazine (6.0391, 12.0781, 24.1563, 48.3125 and 96.6250 μg/mL). The treatments were applied in the soil after seed sowing and before emergence stage. [Result]The impact of atrazine on cabbage bud growth was more pronounced compared to effect on root growth, the LC10 values of bud and root length were 4.2077 and 16.9191 μg/mL, respectively. The chlorophyll content of cabbage leaves was inhibited after treatment, while MDA contents and soluble sugars were increased, and the effect of different atrazine concentrations on cabbage plant differed significantly. [Conclusion] Treatments of soils with different concentrations of atrazine affected the growth and physio-biochemical processes of cabbage. A certain level of atrazine concentration inhibited the growth processes, and the inhibitory effects were more pronounced at higher concentrations. The plant friendly concentrations of atrazine should be worked out before treatments to enhance the production.
