Abstract

The damage alarming analysis based on wavelet packet energy spectrum was performed with regard to the experimental data of Benchmark steel frame structure and online monitoring data of Runyang Suspension Bridge, and on the basis of which the damage alarming effects using various wavelet functions and wavelet packet decomposition levels were investigated in detail. Results reveal that the Daubechies wavelet functions and Coiflets wavelet functions are applicable to structural damage alarming and in real applications the higher order of wavelet function is preferred to obtain better resolution in time domain and damage alarming capacity. In addition, the higher the wavelet packet decomposition level is, the better the resolution in frequency domain and damage alarming capacity will be. The analysis results of Runyang Suspension Bridge reveal that with the increase of the wavelet packet decomposition level, the evaluation index has remarkable seasonal correlation with the environmental temperature and there is a significant annual change in the evaluation index. Thus, in real applications the higher decomposition level is preferred.
