Distribution and Accumulation of Lead and Cadmium in Ulmus pumila

Abstract
Investigations were carried out on the distribution and accumulation of cadmium and lead in Ul-mus pumila to understand the tolerance and resistance of the plant to heavy metals and provide a technical foundation for planting in heavy metal pollution areas. A pot experiment was conducted to explore the uptake and accumulation characteristics of lead and cadmium of U. Pumila under the conditions of single and combined treatments of lead and cadmium. The results showed that in the conditions of single and combined treatments of lead and cadmium, the root of the plant accumulated the largest amount of lead and cadmium, the stem accumulated smaller amount, and the leaves with the smallest. Under lead or cadmium single treatments, the translocation factor decreased with the increase of treating concentrations. The bio-accumulation factors were different between the treatments of lead and cadmium, which in the above-ground decreased with the increase of concentration and in underground parts increased with the increasing concentration under a single lead contamination. While in cadmium single pollution, the bioaccumulation factor of both the above-ground and underground parts increased first and then decreased with the increase of cadmium. Under combined pollution, cadmium had synergistic effect on the accumulation of lead in the leaves and stems, but had no effect on that in the roots. However, lead had antagonistic effect on the accumulation of cadmium in roots, stems and leaves. U. Pumila did not conform to be an enrichment plant for lead and cadmium, however, it showed tolerance in some extents to lead and cadmium, therefore, it is suitable for planting and greening in the heavy metal pollution areas.关键词
