Abstract

Nitrogen and phosphorus removal by " Anaerobic bioreactor + Subsurface horizontal-flow compound wetland" for rural sewage treating is studied. The total nitrogen varies from 10. 3 to 51. 8 mg/L, ammonia from 6. 8 to 44. 7 mg/L, while total phosphorus ranges from 0. 9 to 5. 2 mg/L in rural domestic wastewater. At anaerobic bioreactor's HRT of 24 h and artificial wetland's HRT of 48 h, the average removal efficiency for TN, ammonia and TP are 30. 7% , 42. 9% and 72. 3% , respectively. The treatment performance ranks in a descending order as following: summer, spring and winter. The major mechanism for COD removal in combined technology is hydrolisis acidification, matrix interception and microorganism metabolism. The total nitrogen is mainly removed through microorganism function and plant absorption in artificial wetland, while the total phosphorus mainly through matrix absorption. In order to improve the overall TN removal we can set an oxygenation equipment after anaerobic bioreactor, which can improve DO in wastewater and increase the nitration ability in artificial wetland.
