An Algorithm of 2-D DOA Estimation Based on MIMO Radar Virtual Array

Abstract
A novel algorithm of 2-D DOA(direction of arrival) estimation is proposed based on single echo signal of MIMO(multiple input multiple output) radar with L-shaped collocation. Two matrices with designated relationship are constructed by using the data of virtual arrays formed by single echo signal. And a DOA matrix is also constructed using the two matrices. Then the closed-form solution of the azimuth and elevation angle is derived according to the relationship of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the DOA matrix. Because of not referring to 2-D peak searching, the computational load of the algorithm is low, and the problem of pair matching does not exist in the method. Furthermore, the maximum number of the targets that can be estimated by the method would be equal to or more than the number of receive antennas when the number of transmit antennas is more than two. The correction and efficiency of the proposed method are verified by the computer simulation results.关键词
