Leaf and branch characteristics of three mango varieties differing in tree vigor
摘要
Abstract
[Objective]The aim of the present study was to compare the leaf and branch characteristics of different mango varieties differing in tree vigor in order to identify their early vigor and to provide theoretical basis for selecting them as parents in breeding programs. [Method]Three mango varieties, viz., Tommy Mango, Keitt Mango and Neelum were investigated under field conditions to measure the branch length, branch size, taperingness, branch-cortex ratio, branching angle, number of leaves per branch, length of leaf petiole, leaf area, leaf length, leaf width, leaf fresh weight per unit area, leaf dry weight per unit area and dry matter content of leaves. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Duncan s multiple range test was used to process the collected data. [Result]There were no significant differences in taperingness, leaf length, leaf fresh and dry weights per unit area, number of leaves per branch and length of leaf petiole amongst 3 mango varieties. Tommy and Keitt Mango did not differed in branch length, branch-cortex ratio and branching angle, however they differed significantly with Neelum. The difference of branch diameter between Keitt Mango and Neelum was extremely significant, while there were no significant differences between Tommy Mango and Neelum, and Tommy and Keitt Mango. The differences of leaf area and dry matter content of leaves between Tommy and Keitt Mango, and Neelum and Keitt Mango were found to be extremely significant, while there were no significant differences between Tommy Mango and Neelum. The difference of leaf width between Tommy Mango and Neelum, and Keitt Mango and Neelum were extremely significant while no differences were observed between Tommy and Keitt Mango. [Conclusion]No significant differences were found in taperingness, number of leaves per branch, length of leaf petiole, leaf length and leaf fresh and dry weight per unit area a-mongst the 3 mango varieties. However, there were significant differences in branch length, branch diameter, branch-cortex ratio, branching angle, leaf area, leaf width and dry matter content of leaves amongst the 3 mango varieties.关键词
