Abstract

In the present study, continuous basalt fiber (BF) and basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars were investigated in their durability performances when subjected to water and alkaline solution. Immersion in water and alkaline solution at elevated temperatures led to remarkable etching of BF, and significant deterioration in the tensile strength of the dry fibers and BFRP bars. For BFRP bars, the tensile modulus was less affected relative ly. For both BF and BFRP, alkaline solution shows more adverse effect on the depression of the tensile strength than water, especially at the elevated temperatures.
