Adaptability of Guangdong Oolong Tea in Fujian

Abstract

Six varieties of Guangdong Oolong tea, including Huangzhixiang Dangcong, Bai Mao 2, Hong Yan 1, Hong Yan 7, Hong Yan 9 and Hong Yan 12, were introduced for the experimentation using Huangdan as the control (CK) . The growth period, shoot characteristics, fresh leaf yield, finished tea quality, and resistance to enviromental stresses of the teas were observed. The photosynthesis of the tea leaves was measured using a portable CID-301PS system. The results showed that the net photosynthetic rate (Pn) , transpiration rate (Tr) , resistance to environmental stresses, yield and quality of Huangzhixiang were higher than those of the control, Huangdan. The buds and the 3rd leaves of Bai Mao 2 and Hong Yan 12 were longer and heavier, and the yield and quality higher than those of CK. The quality of Hong Yan 1 was better than CK, while the yield of Hong Yan 9 higher than that of CK. The buds and the 3rd leaves of Hong Yan 7 were longer and heavier, and the cold resistance, quality and yield were higher than those of CK. This study examined the adaptability of the Guangdong Oolong teas for cultivation in Fujian. From the 6 years experimentation, it was found that the 6 varieties fitted well in Fu 'an, and were expected to grow well in other agroclimatically similar areas in the province as well.
