Abstract

By testing the initial freezing temperature of soil samples, an automatic and remote real-time field temperature monitoring system was established. The thickness of seasonally frozen soil was calculated by substituting the freezing front by the depth of the initial freezing temperature isotherm so as to provide basis for the automatic observation of freezing depth in cryopedology. The test results show that the correlation coefficient of the freezing process is 0.97, that of the thawing process is 0.98, and that of the whole freezing-thawing process is 0.98. The scheme of observing freezing depth by means of the freezing point isotherm of temperature field is feasible, the real-time monitoring of the freezing-thawing process can be automatically achieved, and the observation accuracy is much higher.
