Reliability and validity of the Beck Hopelessness Scale in rural suicide study
摘要
Abstract
Objective: To test the reliability and validity of the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) in rural suicides. Methods: Totally 198 rural suicides happened from September 1,2008 to August 31,2009 and 201 controls were collected from 25 towns of 3 counties from disease surveillance points in Shandong Province. The Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) was used to test hopelessness, with the Trait Anxiety Inventory (TAI) as the criterion. Results: The Cronbach a of BHS in suicides and controls were 0. 92 and 0. 86, respectively. Criterion validity analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between the scores of BHS and TAI (r = 0.73, P <0.001). Exploratory factor analyses showed 4 factors in suicides and 5 factors in controls were yielded, which were different from the hypothesis of the scale's original designer. Conclusion: The Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) has good reliability and criterion validity, however, construct validity needs to be improved.关键词
