Abstract

In considering the mechanism of the band gap of phononic crystals with local resonance, a kind of 1 -D phononic crystal beam with locally resonant structures was proposed. This beam was composed of an epoxy beam and lead sleeve which were glued together tightly with a vulcanized rubber sleeve. The transmission characteristics of a bending wave were analyzed with the finite element method. The mechanism showing the start-stop frequency of the vibration gap was further studied based on existing basic principles of a local resonant, and corresponding simplified calculation models were proposed. The results show that the phononic crystal beam has a low frequency vibration gap; the starting frequency of the gap is determined by the swing pattern of the local resonator while the relationship of the adjacent resonators'phases shows no obvious regularity. The stop frequency was decided by the anti-phase transverse bending vibration pattern between the beam base and the resonators while the vibration phases of the resonators or cells were found to be opposite to the adjacent ones.
