Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of lipoic acid combined with nimodipine in elderly patient with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. METHODS: 78 elderly patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were randomly divided into 2 groups. The therapy group (39 cases) which were treated with lipoic acid 600 mg intravenously once a day and nimodipine 40 mg orally, tid; The control group (39 cases) given nimodipine 40 mg orally, tid. 2 groups of continuous treatment were 3 weeks. Clinical symptoms and nerve conduction velocity were examined before and after treatment. RESULTS: After treatment, 2 groups of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy symptoms and signs, nerve conduction velocity improved significantly. Compared with the control group, treatment group improved more significantly (P<0.05). There were no serious ADRs found in 2 groups. CONCLUSION: The combined use of lipoic acid and nimodipine treatment may improve the elderly diabetic peripheral neuropathy.关键词
