Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation of the expressions of Aurora-B and Ki-67 protein in osteosarcoma, and the relationship of the expressions with distant metastasis. Methods Sixty formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded surgical specimens of osteosarcoma obtained from Jan. 2002 to Mar. 2009 were used to observe the expressions of Aurora-B and Ki-67 by immunohistochemical staining, and 21 specimens of osteochondroma obtained at the same period were similarly studied to serve as control. Results The positive rate of Aurora-B was significantly higher in osteosarcoma (53. 3%) compared with osteochondroma (23. 8%, P<0. 05) , and was markedly higher in osteosarcoma with distant metastasis (78. 6%) than in osteosarcoma without distant metastasis (45. 7%, P<0. 05). The Ki-67 proliferation index was significantly higher in osteosarcoma (35. 1%±15. 2%) than in osteochondroma (2. L%±0. 9%, P<0.01), and was markedly higher in osteosarcoma with distant metastasis (48. 3%+20. 1%) than in osteosarcoma without distant metastasis (21. 2% + 10. 2%, P<0. 05). Correlation analysis revealed that the Aurora-B positive rate was positively correlated with Ki-67 proliferation index (r=0.885, P<0.01) in osteosarcoma. Conclusion Aurora-B and Ki-67 protein may be involved in the development, progression and metastasis of osteosarcoma, and is expected to serve as a new diagnostic and therapeutic target for osteosarcoma.关键词
