Abstract
Objective To explore the significance of the screening value of the Mental Disorder Prediction Scale for Military Personnel in re-examining new recruits for mental illness and to provide a basis for screening recruits for mental disorder. Methods The recruits who joined the army from 2007 to 2009 were re-examined using the Mental Disorder Prediction Scale for Military Personnel. They were subjected to three levels of diagnosis, which included a trace survey, a psychological interview, and the Chinese Classification and Diagnostic Criteria for Mental Disorders, Third edition (CCMD-3). Moreover, the clinical diagnosis was determined according to the three levels of diagnosis to analyze the concordance between the Mental Disorder Prediction Scale for Military Personnel and clinical diagnosis. Results More than 3,900 recruits were diagnosed with mental disorder using the Mental Disorder Prediction Scale for Military Personnel, whereas 201 recruits were diagnosed clinically with mental disorders. Among these recruits, 172 have the same diagnosis. The sensitivity of the scale for re-examining the new recruits was 85. 57%, whereas the specificity of the scale was 94. 19%. The sensitivity and specificity of the scale to all kinds of mental disorders were as follows, respectively: Schizophrenia, 87. 50% and 86. 11%; depressive disorder, 81. 58% and 87. 82%; neurosis, 90. 48% and 91.11%; and personality disorder, 80.00% and 92. 84%. Conclusions No obvious differences were observed between the measurement results of the scale and clinical diagnosis using CCMD-3. The scale has a high sensitivity and specificity for screening mental illness among new recruits. The test can be used as a tool for screening for mental disorders among military personnel.关键词
