Abstract
Objective To investigate the visual acuity development of preschoolers aged 3 to 5 in Yantai rural areas. Mehtods Eight kindergardens were randomly selected from different districts in the Yantai rural areas. Visual acuity of preschoolers was measured with Log MAR vision chart. Results 1 376 normal preschool children were examined in the study. There were 145 boys and 130 girls in the 3 - year - old group and 268/262, 286/285 in the 4 - and 5 - year - old groups, respectively. The visual acuities on the Log MAR scale for the corresponding age groups were ( 0. 25 ±0. 09 ), (0. 20 ±0. 10 ) and ( 0. 13 ±0. 10 ), respectively. The difference among the three groups was statistically significant ( P <0. 01 ). The difference between any two groups was also statistically significant ( P < 0. 01 ). However, the difference between boys and girls in any groups was not statistically significant ( P >0. 05 ). Conclusion The visual acuity shows a slow rise with an increase of age a-mong the 3 ~5 years old preschollers, which indicates criteria for amblyopia based on age difference. No correlation between visual acuity and gender was found.关键词
