Abstract
Objective To better understand the clinical manifestations of breakthrough varicella and the significance of varicella vaccines by comparative analysis of the clinical manifestations of breakthrough varicella and primary varicella in the same epidemic period. Methods Children with varicella in the same epidemic period were divided into breakthrough varicella group who have been vaccinated, and primary varicella group who have not been vaccinated. Clinical manifestations, prognosis, mis-diagnosis , missed diagnosis and treatment in the two groups were comparatively analyzed. Results The differences in sex ratio between the two groups were not statistically significant ( P >0. 05 ). Children with breakthrough varicella were significantly older than those with primary varicella, and the duration between onset and seeking for medical treatment was significantly prolonged ( P <0. 05 ). The differences in body temperature and rash numbers between the two groups were statistically significant ( P < 0.05 ). Compared with primary varicella group, ulceration, infection symptoms and scars left in breakthrough varicella group were significantly reduced, and the eruption and decrustation duration, illness duration, course of treatment and expenses were significantly reduced, while misdiagnosis rate, missed diagnosis rate and delayed treatment seeking rate were all significantly increased ( P <0. 05 ). Conclusion Varicella vaccine can protect children from varicella, so children should be vaccinated without delay. Breakthrough varicella is usually with slight symptoms and untypical rash, which are likely to cause misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis, so close attention should be paid to the identification and diagnosis.关键词
