Evaluation on bearing capacity of tourism environment in Southern Jiangsu cities based on sustainable development

Abstract
In order to understand the bearing capacity of urban tourism environment and make a scientific judgment on its current status, a model for measuring sustainable bearing capacity of tourism environment has been developed in this study based on the concept of sustainable development. The model has incorporated an index system evaluating the bearing capacity of urban tourism environment, which is composed of three criteria layers including the bearing capacities of natural environment, economic environment and social environment, and seven status layers. The case studies are conducted in five cities in Southern Jiangsu to assess and analyze the bearing capacities and conditions of their tourism environment in 2010. The results show that the tourism environment in all five cities has attained sustainable bearing status, but with significant different levels. The study not only presents a new perspective for quantitative study on bearing capacity of tourism environment, but also is of practical significance for promoting sustainable urban tourism development.关键词
