Abstract

Based on the water diversion schemes and the calculated results of the two-dimensional environmental fluid dynamics model, two methods are proposed to predict and evaluate the impact of a water diversion on the lake ecological environment. One method is constructing an integrated impact index to evaluate the impact of the water diversion project on the ecology, environment and landscape of lakes in terms of naturalness, self-purification (health) level, landscape, hydrophilic level, and connectivity. The other one is using the quality index method to evaluate the integrated impact of the project on lake health in terms of water environmental quality, biodiversity, flood control and drainage, and ecological landscape structure. The case study shows that the two methods can scientifically evaluate the effect of the water diversion project, and the results of the two methods are quite consistent, which provide scientific assessment methods and a basis for the proper implementation of the lake diversion project.
