Abstract

Maize inbred lines (478) seeds were used as materials to study the changes of physiological characteristics in early seed germination. Enzymatic activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) , peroxidase (POD) , catalase (CAT) , ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and electrophoresis patterns of SOD, POD, APX, amylase (AMY) , esterase (EST) , proteins in embryos of seed during its early germination were analyzed. The results showed that the activity of SOD decreased, while POD, CAT, APX increased with prolonging of germination duration. The activity changing trends of SOS, POD, APX isozyme bands were the same as their enzymatic activity. The electrophoresis patterns of proteins showed little difference, with the majority bands weakened, but a few deepened. This study has provided a theoretical basis for testing maize vigor during storage.
