Stem cells transplantation for treatment of diabetes mellitus

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Stem cells transplantation can treat diabetes mellitus on cell and gene levels to achieve clinical cure.OBJECTIVE: To review the research progress addressing stem cells trans plantation for diabetes mellitus.METHODS: A computer based search was conducted in PubMed database and Chinese Journal Full-ted database for relevantarticles published from January 2DD0 to June 201D. With keywords of" stem cells, diabetes mellitus. Transplantation,insulin-secreting cell, treatment' in English and Chinese, respectively. A total of 27 articles were reviewed.RESULT SAND CONCLUSION: Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disease characterized by chronic high blood sugar,which is caused by absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. Currently there is no treatment to cure it Stem cells have a strongself-renewal and differentiation potential, which can be induced to differentiate into insulin-secreting cells to regulate blood sugarinvivo and in vitm. And they become the new resource of a substitute of islet & cells. At present, stem cells transplantation ontreatment of diabetes mellitus has made some progress in animal experiments and small-scale clinical studies.关键词
