Abstract
To evaluate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic radical resection for elderly patients with rectalcancer.MethodsFrom June 2004 to June 2009, laparoscopic surgery and open radical resection were performed in 90 elderlypatients with rectal cancer. No difference was seen between the two groups in age,gender, diagnosis, complications and ASA (American society of anesthesiology score) class. The clinical data were collected and analyzed retrospectively. ResultsThemean blood loss (85.1mL± 23.7mL vs. 266.3± 167.2mL,P<0.01) .duration of operation (183.1 ±56.2min vs 150.1 ±57.3min, P<0.05) ,time to restore intestinal function (2.5 ± 0.7 d vs. 4.3 ±0.8 d, P<0.05), time to get out of bed (4 ± 0.7 d vs. 11 ±2.2d, P<0.05) were significantly different between the laparoscopy group and the open surgery group. No significant difference was found in the postoperative complication rate except the postoperative complication in respiratory system (2 vs 12, P<0.05). Laparoscopic radical resection is a safe and minimally invasive surgery for elderly patients with rectal cancer.关键词
