Abstract
To investigate the effect of body mass index (BMI) and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) onthe outcome of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET).A retrospective analysis was performed on 153 infertilitypatients with PCOS and 275 patients with tubal factors who underwent agonist long-protocol IVF-ET. Patients were then divided into overweight (BMI&24) or normal weight (BMI<24) groups. Parameters including the dose of gonadotropins, the duration of stimulation, number of retrieved oocytes, maturation rate, fertilization rate, the number of high-quality embryos, implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate and first-trimester abortion rate were compared between groups.ResultsThe percentage of over weightpatient was significantly higher in PCOS group (P<0.01). The dose of gonadotropins was higher and the duration of stimulation was longer in over weight patients than those of normal weight in PCOS group( P<0.01). Significantly more retrieved oocytes and high-quality embryos were observed in normal weight PCOS group (P<0.01). The differences of the maturation rate, fertilization rate, implantation rate, pregnancy rate and abortion rate were not significant among these groups (P >0.05).PCOSwith high BMI has a negative effect on the ovarian response to gonadotropins. The presence of PCOS in non-obese patient is a favorable prognostic factor in ovarian stimulation. Both PCOS and BMI have no effect on the pregnancy outcome of IVF.关键词
