Abstract
Objective To investigate the association of serum resistin ( IR ) with metabolic syndrome ( MS ) in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus ( T2DM ) patients. Methods A total of 82 cases of elderly T2DM patientswere classified into MS group ( n =46 ) and non -MS group ( n =36 ). Another 30 healthy cases were selected as the control group. Body mass index ( BMI ) and waist/hip ratio ( WHR ) were calculated. Fasting serum resistin, insulin, glucose, HbA,c, UA, full lipid profile, and hs -CRP were determined. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 13. 0 software. Results Serum resistin and HOMA -IR levels in MS group and non - MS group were significantly higher than those in the control group ( both P <0. 01 ). Significantly higher concentrations of resistin and hs -CRP, and HOMA - IR were observed in MS group than in non-MS goup ( P <0. 05 ). Multivariate stepwise regression analysis showed that HOMA - IR and WHR highly influenced the level of serum resistin. Conclusion Elderly T2DM patients with MS tend to have high fasting serum resistin. The resistin level is positively correlated with HOMA - IR and WHR. Resistin may play an important role in insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes mellitus.关键词
