Comparison of water-holding capability of Pinus.massoniana plantations at different ages

Abstract
The water-holding capability of litter and soil in Pinus massoniana plantations at different ages was compared in Zhenlong Forest Farm, Cuangxi Province. The results showed that litter accumulation and its maximum water-holding capacity increased with stand age and reached its peak in 16 years old plantation, decreased and reached a steady state afterwards. There were positive relationships between litter accumulation and its maximum water-holding capacity (P<0.001). Noncapillary porosity and the ratios of noncapillary porosity and capillary porosity gradually increased with stand age. The water-holding capacity of 0 - 60 cm soil and the integrated water-holding capacity all tended to increase with the augmentation of stand age.关键词
