Abstract

The status of selenium contents in soil and flue-cured tobacco in Enshi tobacco-growing areas were analyzed. The results indicated that: (1) The average content of selenium in soil in Enshi tobacco-growing areas was 0.661 mg/kg and could be defined as selenium-rich. The average content of selenium in flue-cured tobacco leaves was 0.216 mg/kg and showed the trend of B2F > C3F > X2F. The contents of selenium in soil and tobacco leaves in Enshi were higher than other areas. (2) The content of selenium in soil in Enshi had distinct geographical distribution vertically and it increased significantly with increasing altitude and soil macro elements, such as organic matter, available N, P, K. There was no significant correlation with pH. When the soil were selenium sufficient and selenium rich, the main elements in soil were suitable for tobacco growing. (3) Comparing with lower content of selenium in soil, the uptake and accumulation of selenium in tobacco leaves were stronger in higher content of selenium in soil. There existed positive correlations between the content of selenium in soil and tobacco leaves in 8 counties.
