Expanded cheek skin flap for treatment of nasolabial defect after operation

Abstract
Objective To summarize the clinic experiences of application of expanded cheek skin flap for repairing nasolabial defect. Methods The technique consisted of two stages: tissue expanders of 30 to 100ml in size were implanted beneath the cheek skin according to the defect areas in the first stage. 1.5 to 2 months after periodically injecting normal saline solution into the expander to slowly expand the overlying skin, static expansion was 2 weeks. Lesions in nasolabial area were cut and the expanders were taken out, advanced expanded flaps or rotation-advanced expanded flaps were used to restore defects in the second stage with incision in nasolabial fold for hidden scar. Results From October 2009 to August 2011, expanded cheek skin flaps were used to repair nasolabial defects for 28cases, all flaps survived, incision healed by the first intention without complications such as hematoma and infection. 26 patients were followed up for 3 to 12 months, all cases obtained satisfactory results with well texture and color of flaps, and the postoperative scars were not conspicuous, mouths and noses were not deformation. Conclusion Expanded cheek skin flap is a better reconstructive option for nasolabial defect.关键词
