Abstract

In order to provide evidence for further study of the role of wetland plant in wastewater treatment, outdoor pot experiments were conducted to investigate two hydrophytes growth characteristics and accumulating ability of nitrogen and phosphorus in eutrophic water. Both of the two species of plants could grow normally in eutrophic water during the experiment period, after 5 months'growth, the total bi-omass of typha orientalis presl and pontederia cordata was 6. 65 kg/m2 and 10. 83 kg/m2 respectively, a-bout 6 and 7 times of that before cultivation. Before the experiment, TN distributions in both of the two plants'tissues could be summarized as leaf > root > stem, TP distributions in both of the two plants'tissues could be summarized as leaf > stem > root. TN and TP content in different plant tissues of two wetland plants were both decreased significantly at the end of the experiment, TN distributions in different parts of pontederia cordata tissues could also be summarized as leaf > root > stem, while in typha orientalis presl tissues could be summarized as root > leaf > stem; TP distribution in tissues of the two plants could be summarized as root > leaf > stem. Pontederia cordata had high nitrogen and phosphorus accumulation.
