Abstract
In SP logging, enlarging diameter of the electrode may enhance resolution and amplitude of SP log curves. Based on comparing diameter variations of two different electrodes used in SP logging, influence of different diameters of the electrodes on resolution and amplitude of log curves are investigated in theory. Conventional point and ring electrodes are compared to verify influence of the diameters on SP amplitude and resolution. Practical log data show that potential amplitude of the point electrode is obviously lower than that of the ring electrode in thick and thin layers, and the potential amplitude in sand-shale cross bed is even more different, which shows current density is much higher in such bed than that in the thick bed; and the longitudinal potential gradient is higher, so the return amplitude of the log curves is more obvious, too (see Fig. 3). Field tests prove that the SP amplitude and longitudinal resolution are improved with the ring electrode measurements, which verifies the ring electrode SP measurements is much better in zonation.关键词
