Abstract

A combined physical-mathematical simulation platform based on real time digital simulation (RTDS) and digital automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is constructed, and in allusion to defects possibly existing in the functions of auxiliary control and limiting link in AVRs a testing scheme including such items as low-frequency oscillation, over-excitation, under-excitation operation, over current of generator stator and so on is designed. Using the designed testing scheme the modeling and simulation of a certain AVR device are performed by RTDS, and dynamic responses of simulation model and actual device to various disturbances are compared to verify the correctness of testing method, simulation and modeling. Based on the testing results it is pointed out that the characteristic of forced excitation limiting of the simulated AVR is inconsistent with the requirement specified in China National Standard and this phenomena is analyzed. Testing results show that the parameters and models offered by AVR manufacturers should not be simply accepted, especially in auxiliary limiting links the design idea and parameter benchmarks of different manufacturers are not same, even someone does not confirm to National Standard, thus it is necessary for them to carry out rigid tests and detections.
