Effects of health education on anxiety state in patients undergoing modified electroconvulsive therapy

Abstract
Objective To explore the effects of health education on anxiety state in patients undergoing modified electroconvulsive therapy ( MECT ).Methods 160 patients scheduled for MECT were randomly assigned to study group or control group,80 for each group.All the patients received routine preparation for the procedure.In the study group,the patients received systemic health education from the moment of ordering MECT based on their mental state and questions about the procedure.Anxiety state was measured by the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale ( SAS ) in both groups at the moment of ordering MECT and after health education.Results There were significant differences between the two groups in anxiety state.as they entered the MECT treatment room.After systemic health education,anxiety state was significantly improved in the study group.Conclusions Systemic health education can effectively improve anxiety state in patients undergoing modified electroconvulsive therapy and is beneficial for the safety in patients during the treatment.关键词
