Abstract

In order to achieve the spatial distribution of oil and water in horizontal gravity separator, regular distribution pattern and regression equaion of spatial oil concentration distribution in horizontal gravity separator were established by indoor experimental method and comprehensively measuring samples. The regression equation quantitatively describes spatial oil concentration distribution in the separator, which makes convenient to research the regular transference pattern of the dispersed oil droplets in coalescence area and gives support to find the best location for water outlet. It was found that: Oil droplets coalesced quickly in both tilting plate area and flat plate area. In tilting plate area, vertical oil concentrations linearly increase with the increase of vertical position. The highest oil relative concentration difference between top and bottom is more than 0.5. Oil layer flows and ruptures on tilting plates, and oil droplets with big diameter float up and move away quickly. At the end of gravity separator, relative concentration difference fluctuates in a small range of 0.2 along the vertical direction. Experimental results show that the oil droplets coalesce rapidly in tilting plate area, and the spiral vortex is easily formed around the water outlet, which causes turbulent and back flow of the oil droplets with particle diameter smaller than 10 μm, so it's need to improve the outlet structure for a stable flow field.
