Experiment on the adaptability of newly introduced China rose in southern Guangxi

摘要

Abstract

[Objective]The present experiment was aimed to screen suitable China rose cultivars for planting in south-em Guangxi in order to enhance its large-scale production in Guangxi and to provide scientific basis for its breeding and improvement. [Method] Sixty-five different China rose varieties, introduced from Yunnan and Beijing, were planted in the greenhouse in southern Guangxi for observing its adaptability. Some primarily screened China rose varieties were comparatively analyzed on the basis of their botanical properties, biological characteristics, cut flower quality and disease and pest resistance. [Results]The China rose varieties Rosita Vendela, Delilah, Sky line, First Lady, Versilia, Queen's Day, Cool Water and Nirvana showed better growth characteristics. The cut flower of Rosita Vendela, Delilah, Sky line, Nirvana, Cool Water, First Lady, Queen's Day and Versilia attained the requirement of commodity cut flower. The plants of Rosita Vendela, Delilah, Nirvana, Cool Water and Queen s Day were found strong and showed best disease and pest resistance. The Carola and Movie star showed relatively better disease and pest resistance. However, the disease and pest resistance of First Lady, China Red, Sky line and Versilia were recorded as worst. [Conclusion]It is concluded that five China rose cultivars, viz., Rosita Vendela, Delilah, Nirvana, Cool Water and Queen's Day could be used as main varieties suitable for planting in southern Guangxi. The other six cultivars, viz., Carola, Movie star, China Red, Sky line, First Lady and Versilia may be used as secondary varieties for planting in southern Guangxi.
