Relationship between gender,attitude to human nature,empathy and prosocial behavior in adolescents

Abstract
To explore the relationship between gender, lack of faith in human nature, empathy, and prosocial behavior. Methods: The Basic Empathy Scale, Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire and Kiddie Machiavellianism Scale were used to investigate 207 adolescents. Results: Cognitive empathy and affective empathy were positively correlated with prosocial behavior( r = 0. 450,0.381;P<0.05), lack of faith in human nature was negatively correlated with cognitive empathy, affective empathy and prosocial behavior( r = -0.180, -0.232, - 0. 240 ;P < 0. 05 ). The differences of regression coefficient between empathy and prosocial behavior were statistically significant between boys and girls, and the former was higher than the latter. The product of affective empathy and lack of faith in human nature could significantly predict prosocial behavior in the regression equation ( P <0. 05 ). Conclusion: In adolescents, high empathy could positively predict prosocial behavior; lack of faith in human nature could negatively predict prosocial behavior. Lack of faith in human nature exerts an important moderating effect on the relationship between affective empathy and prosocial behavior.关键词
