Abstract

The effects of pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature on the adsorption enrichment of methyl red on chitosan were studied. The results showed that the pH of the medium was the major factor, and the optimal pH was 3.4. The behavior kinetics of the adsorption was well agreement with the Lagergren quasi-second order kinetics model, and the equilibrium absorption capacities decreased with increasing temperature. The activation energy (Ea) of biosorption was determined to be 7. 518 kJ/mol. The adsorption data showed a good fit with Fredulich isothermal equation. Thermodynamic parameters, △G0、△H0 and △S0 were calculated as -24.88 kJ/mol(303 K) , -22.15 kJ/mol and 8. 783 J/(mol· K), respectively. The results indicated that the adsorption enrichment of methyl red in ehitosan was a spontaneous and exothermic process. The FTIR data showed that some functional groups mainly including --OH and --NH2 in chitosan were responsible for the ad- sorption enrichment of methyl red.
