Abstract

Microwave digestion coupled with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer(ICP-OES) was used to determine the concentrations of heavy metals in landfill leachate as well as influents,effluents and excess sludges of leachate-sewage combined treatment plants in Three Gorge Reservior area.Results showed that among all the heavy metals,Ni in 5 effluents at levels between 59.79 and 104.30 μg/L were beyond the discharge standard of guideline GB 18918-2002.In excess sludges,the total concentrations of heavy metals ranged from 15.31 to 27.73 g/kg while each individual heavy metal concentration met the standard of farm application.So under the current operational conditions,with the leachate/sewage ratio between 1∶2 700 and 1∶50(V/V),leachate-sewage combined treatment is an effective method to solve heavy metal contamination of landfill leachate.
