Calculation of converter transformer's parameters for HVDC transmission

Abstract
Converter transformers are absolutely necessary equipments in HVDC system and the parameters play an important role in HVDC operation performance and technical economic index. According to the valve's surge current level, in combination with AC maximal short-circuit capacity of three phase and rated DC voltage and DC current, this paper discusses how to calculate the minimal short circuit impedance of the converter transformer. The calculation formula of short circuit impedance is deduced mathmatically, getting rid of the reiterative redundancy in engineering. Considering a certain margin, the actual impedance value can be acquired. Then the rated voltage of valve side and rated capacity can be calculated. Taking the control mode of constant current at rectifier side as well as the constant voltage at inverter side for example, based on the system parameters and measuring tolerances, tap range of converter transformer is calculated in detail. At the end of the paper, a study case is presented to verify the calculation procedure.This work is supported by Key Project of the National Eleventh-Five Year Research Programme of China (No. 2006BAA02A21).关键词
