Influence of Shot Peening and Surface Integrity on the Fatigue Properties of 300M Steel

Abstract
The influence of shot peening intensity,its coverage and surface integrity on the fatigue properties of 300M steel is studied,in order to improve the fatigue resistance of the high strength steel.The influence of shot peening on the surface characteristics,including residual stress,roughness,damage and hardness,is studied by using X-ray diffraction analysis,surface profile measurement,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),microhardness instrument,etc.The mechanism of fatigue resistance improvement by shot peening is also discussed.The results reveal that the effect of the fatigue properties improved by shot peening is not a simple monotonic variation with shot peening intensity and coverage.The surface integrity and fatigue resistance are higher in a certain range of shot peening parameters.When the shot peening parameters are chosen,it is blinded that merely pursuing high intensity or shot peening coverage,while ignoring the surface integrity of metal materials.关键词
