Abstract

The seedling emergence status of 6 salt -alkali -tolerant cotton varieties (lines) and 1 salt -alkali -susceptible cotton variety which were sown at different dates was studied, and their seedling formation characters under the condition of salt stress to three - leaf seedlings were analyzed. The results indicated that the seedling emergence rates of 7 tested cotton varieties (lines) in the soil without salt - alkali were all about 80%. In the soil containing 0.4% salt, the seedling emergence rate of salt - alkali - tolerant cotton varieties (lines) was higher than that of salt - alkali - susceptible cotton variety Sikang No. 1. The inhibitory action of salt stress on seedling emergence was more obvious along with the delaying of sowing date. The growth potential of 7 tested varieties (lines) was similar in the no - salt soil. After applying 0.4% salt at three - leaf stage, the lethal rate of salt stress to salt - alkali - tolerant cotton varieties (lines ) was obviously lower than that of Sikang No. 1. The salt - alkali tolerance of salt - alkali - tolerant cotton varieties (lines) at seedling formation stage was stronger than that of Sikang No. 1. For the salt -alkali -tolerant cotton varieties (lines), their salt - alkali tolerance identification results at seedling stage was not similar to that at three - leaf stage, indicating that the complexity of physiological and biochemical mechanism in the salt - alkali tolerance of cotton. Through the test, we screened out a new salt - tolerant cotton variety Suyan 7045, which had high salt - tolerance both at seedling emergence stage and at seedling formation stage.
