Abstract

Peak wind pressure on tall buildings under the interference of another tandem, staggered and side by side arranged building was studied using the synchronous wind pressure measurement technique. The effects of the breadth ratio(Br) and height ratio(Hr) were considered. The results show that the peak pressure of the lateral facade adjacent to the interfering building mainly causes amplification effect. With the Br(Br≤1)and Hr increased, the maximum peak wind pressure on the lateral face can be increased by 30%. When the interfering building is located in the windward area with the across-wind direction spacing less than 3b(b is the breadth of the interfered building), the maximum peak wind pressure on the windward face can be increased by 40%. Due to the three-dimensional flow effects, lower upstream interfering building(Hr〈1) in tandem arrangement may make the local peak pressure on lateral and windward faces increase by 58% and 29% respectively. Channeling effect in side by side arrangement should be paid enough attention because maximum interference factor of the wind pressure on the lateral face is found to be 2.13 and decreases with the increase of the building spacing. The results show that only when the building spacing exceeds 9b do the channeling effects tend to disappear. A credible regression equation to predict the maximum interference factor of the peak wind pressure on the lateral face for two side by side arranged buildings is proposed.
