Abstract
Investigation into the impact damage characteristics has become important in protection designing. The failure modes of thin steel plates under normal impact by different conical projectiles are studied by experiments. There are two failure modes of penetration hole and plugging with different conical angles. If conical angle is less than 110°, the failure mode is penetration hole; if conical angle is less than 110°, the failure mode is plugging. Based on the experiment result, the process of thin steel plate under normal impact by conical projec- tiles is simulated by using LS- DYNA, by comparing results between numerical simulation and experiment, it is found that LS- DYNA is an effective method of predicting thin steel plates under normal impact by conical projectiles.关键词
