Abstract

In order to study the hydraulic characteristics of the stilling basin with drop sill, the underflow speed, time-average pressure, fluctuating pressure, and integral scale in space in the stilling basin with and without drop sill are compared based on a hydraulic modelling test within a scale of 1 : 50 from an engineering project Comparing the stilling basin with drop sill to that without drop sill,the maximum underflow speed decreases by 38. 5%,the peak time-average pressure decreases by 30%,the peak fluctuating pressure decreases by 50%, and the minimum integral scale in space decreases by 75%. With the increasing flow rate into the stilling basin with drop sill, the variations of the above four indexes show an increasing tendency. In terms of the safety of the slab, the stilling basin with drop sill shows a better applicability than that without drop sill.
