Surface pCO2 and Air-Sea CO2 Flux in the Northern Yellow Sea During Summer
摘要
Abstract
In this paper, we presented the distribution of surface CO2 partial pressure (PCO2) of the northern Yellow Sea (NYS) based on a high spatial resolution measurement during summer 2006, and investigated their controlling factors in combination with associated physical and biogeochemical parameters. The results indicate that the entire NYS during summer is oversaturated with respect to the atmospheric CO2, with high pCOz values of (463±41) atm due to high water temperature. This PCO2 pattern in the NYS is similar to that in most of the mid-and high latitude shelves in the world. Surface pCO2 also has significant regional variability, with high values in the Liaonan and Lubei coastal regions, and relatively low values in the central NYS. High pCO2 values in the Liaonan coastal region are related to the aerobic respiration of organic matter delivered by river inputs and aquiculture. And high PCO2 in the Lubei coastal region is caused by the upwelling of bottom cold water around Yantai and the resuspension of inorganic carbon rich mud from the Huanghe River (a. K. A Yellow River). In contrast, a good relationship between surface pCO2 and the surface temperature existes in the central NYS, indicating the important role of temperature in the pCO2 distribution. Furthermore, we estimate the air-sea CO2 flux during summer 2006 based on the parameterization of gas transfer velocity of Wannikhof (1992). Results show that NYS is an atmospheric CO2 source during summer, with an average efflux rate of (4. 00 ±0. 57) mmol · m~2 · d-1, higher than that in the Southern Yellow Sea during summer.关键词
