Abstract
Objective To investigate the expressions of human (3-defensin-2 (hBD-2) and macrophage nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-kB) p65 in induced sputum from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and, and investigate the possible roles of hBD-2 in COPD. Methods Fifty patients with COPD and 50 normal controls in Suqian people's hospital from May 2009 to October 2010 were included in this study. Pulmonary function of theses subjects was tested, and the expressions of hBD-2 and macrophage NF-kB p65 in induced sputum were determined. The relationships between the level of hBD-2 and NF-kB p65, pulmonary function were analyzed. Results The expressions of macrophage NF-kB p65 and hBD-2 in sputum in patients with COPD were significantly higher than those in normal controls, which were significantly higher in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD than those in patients in remission stage of COPD (P < 0.01). The expression of hBD-2 was positively correlated with the expression of macrophage NF-kB p65h (r = 0.862, P < 0.01), and was negatively correlated with FEV1% (r = -0.475, P < 0.01). Conclusions hBD-2 and NF-kB play a role in the inflammation course of COPD, and the level of hBD-2 in induced sputum can be used as a marker for evaluating the degree of COPD. NF-kB may be involved in the process of airway inflammation and airway obstruction in COPD through up-regulating the expression of hBD-2.关键词
