Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) and its correlation with tumor invasion and metastasis in gastric carcinoma. Methods Expressions of XOR were measured by immunohistochemistry in 264 gastric carcinoma specimens and corresponding normal tissues , and the correlation between XOR levels and a series of clinicopathological variables , as well as disease-specific survival, was assessed. Results The expression rate of XOR was decreased in gastric cancer as compared with that in the corresponding normal tissues (P < 0.01). The expression of XOR was related to tumor stage, tumour penetration, lymph node metastasis, and tumor size (P < 0.05). Down regulation of XOR was associated with unfavourable outcome , and the cumulative 5-year gastric cancer-specific survival in patients with positive XOR expression was 47% , compared with 22% in those with negative expression (P < 0.001). Conclusions Expression of XOR in gastric carcinoma may be a new marker for identifying a more aggressive gastric carcinoma.关键词
